First time Spain goes to the break as a local three goals downFirst time that Spain goes to the break as a local three goals down

For everything there is a first time, even for the negative data, and in Benito Villamarín there was a circumstance never before seen in the history of the Spanish national football team, that of going to rest three goals down. The Sterling double and the Both of Rashford blew up the warning lights in the Spanish combine and go back in history. So much that since 1991 Spain did not fit three goals at home, on that occasion in Santander and against Hungary the team fell by 2-4. However in that game after the first half the result was 1-1.

Twice more Spain has lost by three or more at home, but in none of them the result was so bulky at the end of the first 45 minutes. In 1981 again against Hungary although this time in Valencia Spain fell defeated by 0-3. The other precedent is older still. In 1963 against Scotland in a friendly match held at the Santiago Bernabéu, the selection of José Villalonga fell precipitously by 2-6, the result at halftime was 2-4.
